I can't actually remember how I came across this book, but I downloaded chapter one and read it and just had to buy the book. I sat down on a sunny bank holiday Monday and thought, I'll make a start on reading it. Eight hours later I had devoured the whole thing! A totally engrossing tale told in a slightly Dan Brown style, which is meant as a compliment. It would make a great film and I look forward to the prequel and the sequel. The book is written in an excellent way with perfectly balanced action keeping readers in unceasing tension. It is apparent that the writer put immense effort into preparing the background information for the book since it demonstrates the detailed knowledge of our civilisation’s history.
What is more, it reflects weaknesses and strong points of people as the inhabitants of the blue planet.  My take on the book is that it sends a deeper message than an ordinary interplanetary story, but I will leave it for you to decide yourselves. For his first novel Chris has certainly got a very imaginative mind, this along with good writing skills, make this a very good read. There has obviously been a tremendous amount of work done in exploring space travel and the book combines together a thriller, mystery and sci-fi posing some interesting questions about life and love.  Looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.

Just excellent!! A masterful combination of no-nonsense science and a well-paced narrative, which while keeping the reader turning the pages at a furious pace, also explores some deep historical and cultural themes.  The author has managed to create and introduce the reader to a complete intergalactic society equipped with some of the very contemporary issues which we find mirrored in our own. The detailed descriptions, a story line which strays elegantly into historical and in some cases philosophical themes and the twists and turns in the plot leading to an ending that I wasn't expecting make for a very good read.                                                                           T Rabone – Japan

I saw someone write a post about this book on Twitter so I thought I'd spend a couple of quid and give it a go. I'm not a huge SiFi fan but after reading the description I thought it seemed an interesting story. Well what can I say apart from 'I'm really glad I gave it a chance'! I finished the whole book after only a couple of nights. The story is well paced, and has some excellent characters in it. Interesting to see there's going to be a prequel and a sequel coming out over the fullness of time. Wasn't quite sure where the story was going at the start, but I was soon hooked, immortality doesn't solve everything it seems, even the immortals can get it wrong. Left wanting to know more, which direction will the human race and for that matter Xethanti going to take? Looking forward to the sequel and prequel.

Visionaries is a great read, establishing a substantial and credible world. The Authors vision is carefully brought to life and unfolded to encourage the readers comprehension and speculation of events, whilst maintaining the element of surprise. I am certainly looking forward with anticipation to the promised second and third books of this trilogy.

This book worked on so many levels. The story itself was very engaging and, in many ways, you could treat it simply as a sci-fi novel with a strong narrative. You then realise that the narrative has multiple layers, which poses questions as to humanity and our attitude to anything that is alien to us. I really enjoyed the read and look forward to the next installment!

Having read Visionaries back in 2018 soon after it was released, I had been waiting for the next book in the trilogy to be released.

As soon as it was released it was on my Kindle, and it was well worth the wait. The story is gripping and whilst some of it can be predictable the majority is refreshing and gets you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of the next twist.

Chris' writing style has developed since the 1st book and the way the story bounces backwards and forwards between the different threads is great. This book does tidy up a lot of the loose ends left at the end of Visionaries, but also creates some great new plot lines that I look forward to seeing resolved in book 3.

If you enjoyed Visionaries, please get this book immediately as it will tidy up most of the plots left at the end of the book. If you haven't read Visionaries yet, get both and read them in order, you will enjoy them both.

Just after this book was published I noticed that Visionaries had been updated on my kindle and I was pleased to see on reading it that Mr Donlan has refined it to be even better than it already was.

I read this book on holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t normally read science fiction, and not sure I would class this book as science fiction per se. It is a great story, told with a science fiction element, but moreover with a refreshing view on world morality. All of this makes you stop and think at the same time as you want to turn the pages to see what happens next. Thoroughly recommended. Now waiting for the next book.

Planetary Union is an excellent new installment to the Visionaries series from Author Chris Donlan. Chris has not only created a credible new history, but melded characters and possible events with precision and care. Visionaries Planetary Union is the second book by Chris, but third in the Chronology of his Visionaries Trilogy, so we take a leap forward in time, but loose nothing in continuity of story. It's an enthralling and a very enjoyable read. I am now looking forward with anticipation to the final book in the Visionaries series.

I came across Chris's first novel 'Visionaries' by accident, can't remember how but I sat down on a bank holiday and read it front to back in one day, it was that engaging. When I saw that he had published the follow up, I bought it straight away. I only managed 32 chapter on the first day as I needed to let the story soak in a little. Having sat down in the garden this after noon in the sunshine and a cold beer. I have now finished it. The story very cleverly uses Science fiction to weave a great story about how the so called elite are completely screwing up the planet. Chris writes in 'sketches' that actually engage you more, as you colour in those sketches yourself as you read. 100% recommend and can't wait for the promised final book!

This is such a clever book, on multiple levels. In itself its a great story, following on from the debut novel, Visionaries. But this book also shines a light on the world today and the challenges we all face to create balance, harmony and to stop destroying our precious environment. Unlike the book, there is no Planet B! ( That we know of...)  I really enjoyed this book and I'm sure you will too.

Just finished reading Visionaries by Chris Donlan, our local and very talented author. For anybody that fancies a holiday read without being set on a particular genre, pick up this book immediately!
